Why Now is the Perfect Time to Start Your Fitness Journey

We can all makes excuses as to why we are not working out. We don’t have enough time, energy, money or enthusiasm. It is easy to put off exercising until tomorrow, but the very best time to get started is actually right now (maybe finish reading this blog post first)! There is no need to be scared about dusting off your old trainers – fitness has never been more accessible than it is today.

Choose Your Preferred Fitness Destination

Your fitness journey is an incredibly personal thing and there are a number of variables that will make it unique to you. Where you exercise will be one of those things.

Some people enjoy the camaraderie and support that comes from the gym and it can certainly be a useful place for beginners, with trained professionals helping you to use the equipment and fun fitness classes led by personal trainers. However, some people find the idea of working out in a room full of other people slightly nerve-wreaking.

If this is you, then perhaps you might consider an outdoor pursuit, such as trekking or tennis. Joining a sports team might hold the same level of fear as the gym, but it can also be a great way to get to know people. A few years ago, these would have been your only options. However, the internet is now full of tools that can help you get fit in the safety and security of your home. You can no longer use location as an excuse to not exercise.

Take it Slow

Go too hard or too fast and you will soon find another reason to stop working out – injury or exhaustion! It is important to remember your own limits and take it at a pace that is comfortable for you. Keep at it and you will soon find yourself able to push yourself a little bit harder with every workout. Set yourself some achievable goals to work towards so that you have a motivation that will spur you on.

If you have never worked out before and are not sure how to even get started, look for online fitness courses specific to beginners. These workouts will explain movements in more depth and keep the exercises basic, so you can easily follow along.

It is also important to make it fun. Dress in bright and fun fitness clothing lifts your energy before you even begin and put on your favourite music. This is where working out at home can really be a bonus, as you can exercise and be as silly as you like, without worrying about what other people are thinking.

Remember, everyone had to start somewhere. You might be a beginner now, but that just gives you plenty of room to progress.

Take That First Step

Sometimes, the hardest part of exercising is showing up in the first place. Once you have made that first move, you will realise it is not as scary as you might have first thought. They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step and that is certainly true when it comes to fitness. There is also no such thing as a bad workout – anything that gets you up and moving is preferable to sitting around doing nothing, so be kind to yourself and just get started
